About Second Chance Plants - Columbia MD
A no-frills garden center with a large selection of cheap, overstock plants from local growers at prices up to 50% less than big box stores.
Located at 10324 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Columbia, MD 21044, Second Chance Plants - Columbia MD operates as a garden center serving Columbia in Maryland. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

Columbia is in Maryland, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Columbia is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Maryland's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

They always have quality plants for low prices. Not only do they have herbs, vegetables, and annuals, they also have a wide variety of perennials that are native, deer resistant, and attract pollinators. Not sure why the plants are "second chance" because they are as nice as what you would find at box stores and some nurseries. I love this place

I went to check out Second Chance Plants during their Native Plants weekend, from a friendβs recommendation, and was not disappointed!! Picked many great herbs and perennials, as well as a couple flowers and a shrub. They had a great selection, and Iβll be eager to come back another year when Iβm looking for veggies to grow! Those prices are tough to beat! Didnβt get any pictures π But it was a really nice setup in the parking lot, with plenty of people coming and going. I love that they do rotating weekends with different focusesβ definitely keep your eye on their calendar! π

I don't know that I would drive significantly out of my way, but it's a great local company. Some pieces are better than others, but if still support local vs big box store. Don't expect consistent items, but it's great if you have an open mind. Today they had small vegetables and herbs $3 with buy 4 get one free. I was annoyed they had a big section labeled shade plants, but almost all of them were not. My biggest frustration was getting home with some pretty plants, only to realize they are invasive. Yes, I should have taken the time to look them up on my own first, but I can't believe places are still selling them. I literally can not give them away and all sales are final.

The pricing is a little better on perrenials (4" pots) and annuals (1 gallon pots) than Home Depot although I thought some were a little more pricey than other places. They do have a really nice selection of native trees, shrubs, perrenials, and annuals! I'll definitely try to there again more they close up shop in June.
